Lyrics

         MARYLAND AVENUE

You say you've been cut but you don't bleed.

You never get what you want and you never want what you need.

Hey, your dealing in concepts when you say you just wanna be free.

'Cos you'll find that it's just one more responsibility.

  Hey, everybody feels like you.

They're just wondering what to do.

  Oh, if they knew......

  Hey, I know a man.

  Who knows another man.

And if they can't fix up you, well then, nobody can.

'Cos it's simply a matter of supply and demand.

But, first you gotta know the code before they'll let you in.

  And I ain't saying that it's free.

But it's the only place to be..for me and you....   Down on Maryland Avenue.

Everybody's forming circles there are posses' on the loose.

Everybody has a choice yet no one wants to choose.

Everybody is DOA.  Hey, that's yesterday's news.

It don't matter if your black or white, you gotta right to sing the blues.

Hey, don't get lost in the crowd.

You just gotta let it go for now....Ah..Somehow....

Hey, I know you've been searching, but your afraid of what you'll find.

You want something to wake you up or at least make ya blind.

Hey, we all wanna know the answers.  We just don't wanna do the time.

So, you just bring the razor and I'll supply the line.

  And everybody feels the same.

It seems like changes take forever to brake through.   Hey, I'll see you down on Maryland Avenue.

And it don't matter where you've been.

'Cos even when the cycle ends....it just begins again.....

So, when your down in the trenches and you believe that you've had enough.

You wonder why it's so easy to hate and so damned hard to love.

Just remember that everything is just the opposite of what it was.

You say you never heard that one before, well that's because I just made it up.

It ain't no crime trying to escape.

Just be careful they don't take you away.

  Ah....but, if they do....

I'll be waiting for you down on Maryland Avenue.

I thank you for your comment. It may be retro, but that's the music I listen to and influenced by - Beatles, Dylan and Stones. And I know that Mott was influenced by all three.

Cool - very UK/Retro. Reminds me of Mott The Hoople 70's hits!
